Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

In-depth therapy with a board-certified psychiatrist in Miami

Many people come to therapy because something keeps repeating: the same relationship difficulties, the same feelings of anxiety or emptiness, a sense of being stuck despite trying hard to change. Psychodynamic psychotherapy offers a space to understand why.

What it is

Psychodynamic therapy explores how past experiences, relationships, and feelings outside our awareness shape the way we live now. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we work to understand what lies underneath them. As that understanding grows, change tends to feel more natural and lasting.

Who it can help

This approach can be helpful if you are experiencing:

  • Recurring patterns in relationships or work

  • Depression or anxiety that keeps returning

  • Low self-esteem or harsh self-criticism

  • Difficulty knowing what you want or feel

  • A sense that life isn't as full as it could be

What it's like

Sessions are 50 minutes, usually once or several times per week. Some people sit face to face, and others find the couch helps them speak more freely. Therapy is open-ended; we decide together how long to continue, based on your goals.

More intensive work

For some people, meeting several times a week allows for deeper exploration. I am currently a Candidate (analyst in training) at the Florida Psychoanalytic Center, and this training informs my work at every frequency.

Getting started

The first step is a free 15-minute phone call to talk about what brings you here and whether this approach feels like a good fit.
